Quiet Weekend

Not much going on this weeked with posted jobs. I searched and searched but came up empty. Hopefully Monday will bring something. The only things I can find are commercial jobs in India for those who speak Hindi, and jobs in the UAE for the under 30 crowd!

Trolls

There are always trolls, those folks that are either jealous or just want to make your life miserable. I have encountered one (or two) recntly who have been attempting to discredit anything I post here. I am posting openings as I either hear or read of them, if I have contact info I will add it. If I find contact info later I will go back and add it to the original post.

I am passing on information since I really no longer want to fly. The last thing I want to do is work on a corporate aircraft with a fussy passenger who wants you to kiss his backside!
On any flights I do not handle barf, commercial or corporate (corporate passengers generally have enough class as to not puke on the plane)! You barf, you deal with it! I handle food. Ok so oreo cookies wrapped in cello are food....sort of!!

Back to the troll, he/she/it has been bugging me on Facebook, flightattendants.org and vip cabin coordinators. This annoying person has set me back a bit in searching for jobs for others....I shall be back to hunting for openings and posting them when I take a deep breath and vanquish the troll to back under the swampy bridge with the rest of the pond scum!

Follow Up

Please do not email me and ask me what kind of planes a specific company flies. You need to do your research, I have done the initial work for you but you guys need to follow up.

Never apply for a job without checking on their website, or doing a web search on them to see if there are complaints.

All I am doing is pointing you in the right direction, the rest is up to you!!!

Also remember if they say they are interviewing on a specific day....be available. NEVER EVER ask for a different date.

NEVER EVER ask what they pay. NEVER EVER ask about jumpseat, interline, union or ID90. If these are offered they will come out during an interview.

Southern US Recruiting Firm NOT Airline

Sigmar is recruiting flight attendants for long haul flights out of the southern US. No age restrictions, no photos required!!! Assessments beginning shortly. Sent your resume to cabincrew@sigmaraviation.com. Their post says qualified cabin crew which by Irish standards (they are an Irish company) means experienced/licensed. I'll check with my Irish friend and post additional information.

Ok Sigmar is NOT an airline. It is an Irish recruiting firm. You need to do your research on their website before you even send them your resume! You need to know what you are applying for before you do it!

Anything I post is merely a lead and you need to check it out first!!!

Oman Air

Cranky Old Former Flight Attendants

Today I was taught a lesson, it concerns a former air hostess who is over 50 and no longer flies. Don't piss her off!

She probably wishes she had not given it up, wishes there was the opportunity to go back and do it all over again! Well get off your friggin bum and go back and fly! Oh wait, flying is not the same in the year 2009 as it was in 1979!

For you corporate flyers, you don't need to worry...this vintage gal knows her way around a 707 not a G550!

Behaving like a 13 year old just is not attractive on a 50 plus year old!

Over and out!

Did I mention?

World Atlantic in Miami, Falcon Air Express in Miami (dba Ufly) and I think that Vision is still looking for a Miami base manager (I turned it down since we are moving) must speak Spanish!

Another Layoff

IBC Airways a 135 operator in Miami has laid off flight attendants and pilots. The really nasty thing about it is the flight attendants they laid off were in the first training class!!! There were two classes after class number 1!

I trained Class 1 but declined to train Class 2 since IBC questioned my desire to have things right! They kept postponing the second class and I had another contract come up so I told them I was no longer available!

A month after I left the one of the girls from Class 1 left. In June another girl left for Vision. Now they laid off the last 2 from that class without even offering them the opportunity to relocate to Florida.

If they ever hire again, stay away!

ATI Interviews

Seems that round one is over and 20 have been invited to return on Friday for round two. They are hiring 5 flight attendants with 5 alternates. My information tells me that 2 of the 3 I gave references for made it to round two! Keeping my fingers crossed.

More Me

I left World and headed for Amman, Jordan and an Air Hostess job with Alia - Royal Jordanian Airlines. I remember landing in Amman after the long flight from New York, the plane was surrounded by military with rifles! This was January 1981...and I had no idea where Amman was!

Kingfisher Airlines in India is looking to fill several flight attendant management positions. Some of the positions you do not need to speak Hindi nor be a resident of India. You need to review their website.

Those ATI Interviews in Little Rock

Seems like 60% of the flight attendants I know are going to those ATI interviews next week. This is going to probably be the most competitive interview session ever! People appear to be driving and flying in from all over for what appears to be 5 to 10 flight attendant openings.

I do know someone who used to fly for them, she loved it even though she got laid off twice (I think). This probably is not the job for the weak or those who do not want to break a nail! Long trips but these could be fun. You could have a rock group or be transporting sheep or goats....

Good luck to all who go.

Raises for Kenyan Flight Attendants

I read that Kenya Airways employees are on stike because the support staff (including flight attendants) was a 130% salary increase. The airline has offered 11%.

Corporate Flight Attendant Manager

There was a post on Climbto350 for a corporate flight attendant manager in Seattle. Possibly Vulcan as it did not specify a company. The fax number for this job is 206-254-9201. They are looking for heavy corporate experience. Hey apply, what else do you have to do but sit home and watch General Hospital!! Flying is friggin slow for contract......

Seattle is nice and rainy, foggy and cold....should be fun!

It's All About Me!

After flying for National Aircraft Leasing/Tiger Leasing, I went to World Airways. At first I worked the ticket counter in Chicago for their charter flights. Then the flight attendants (or wass it the pilots) went on strike so the charter flights were history. I moved to Santa Fe. When World resumed operations I was back working for them but in a different capacity in NJ.

Since I was originally from NJ this was a good thing for me, stayed with my folks for a bit and then moved in with a room mate in N. Jersey. Forever a Jersey Girl!!

USA and UAE

Avjet in California is looking for a VIP flight attendant for NH and FL. You must apply through their website.

Eagles Aviation Management in the UAE is also looking for a VIP flight attendant, again go to their website to apply.

Compass Airlines

I also received information that Compass is recruiting. They currently base in Washington DC and Minneapolis, MN. Regional flying for NW/DL. Not sure what will happen with them or their bases as this NW/DL transition continues. May be worth taking a look at them. Regional jets, no turboprops!

Commercial Opening

Ryan International, home base Rockford, Illinois, was (and may still be) hiring for Rockford and a new base in Norfolk,VA. They train in Miami at Aeroservice, seems the lfying is fun and the trips can be long. Not sure if my information is correct but it was sent to me by a fellow FBer!

Where Not To Apply

Unless you really want punishment, no money, fake deductions, faux macho In flight Supervisors, stay away from Jordan Aviation.

They show you one contract before you leave and once you get there it is a totally different contract. They also tell you that you get paid beginning the day you leave to go to Amman but in reality you do not get paid until you sign your contract...which could take months!!!

They deduct for every little thing they can think of.. a year or so ago they had a group of flight attendants from Indonesia. They never paid them, JA shut down for a month plus due to problems with Civil Aviation in Amman. The Indonesian flight attendants were stranded in Amman and had to have the consulate sent them back to Indonesia...

In the UAE

flydubai is currently recruiting cabin crew over the age of 21. You can apply online at their website. This is the low-cost division of Emirates, they have cute uniforms but probably pay next to nothing...hey housing is included! They just started flying in June so this may be the time to get in on the ground floor. In the Press Release photos I have all the flight attendants look very young!

VIP Cabin Coordinators

I am debating on selling off this business, the name, the mailing list, the training materials. I must have over 100 DVD's, manuals, Power Point Presentations, PBE's fire extinguishers, life vests....

Just pondering........

Corporate Flying

Jet Republic is looking for cabin crew to be based in Lisbon. From information I received they are only recruiting/interviewing females. Planes are small so if you are tall, this may not be right for you!

Maybe they are still hiring!

Last I heard Capital Airlines was looking for flight attendants for Houston and San Antonio. They fly 737 and 727 aircraft and mostly do deportee flights. Not a lot of work to just sit on the jumpseat, no meal service, maybe handing out water.

I did some recurrent fire and ditching training for some of their pilots several months ago. DO said they continue hiring, also said they need f/a training instructor. Pay is low. If you contact them do not ask for more than 25k as an instructor and $17 per hour as a f/a.

More About Me

I also did some time as a corporate flight attendant in the early 1970's. Two other girls and I started Rent-A-Stew where we placed commercial flight attendants on private aircraft. This was a new thing for the aviation industry. I did several years flying on a BAC 1-11 for National Aircraft Leasing, they eventually became Tiger Leasing (a division of Flying Tiger). This was nothing like the corporate flying of today, I think I made $150 a day which was a lot back then. Come to think of it...there are desperate corporate flight attendants in 2009 that are willing to fly for that $150 per day!

Commercial Airline Hiring

Commutair, a Continental Connection carrier is recruiting for their Cleveland and Newark bases. Check out their website. This is a commuter carrier flying turboprop aircraft.

Corporate Opening

A new charter operator out of OPF is recruiting FACTS trained flight attendants that live within 2 hours of OPF ONLY. They are not accepting resumes from anyone who is not within the 2 hour drive or who is not FACTS current. Company is Air Platinum Club.

Corporate Flying Dessert Suggestion

I always run through cooking magazines for something new and different for corporate clients. Recently I served ice cream sundaes in a chocolate shell. I made the shell by melting hershey bars and then dipping a balloon into the chocolate as it was cooling. Break the balloon and you have a great shell for the ice cream. It is tricky so try it at home first, first couple times I did this the balloon broke and I had chocolate on the ceiling of the kitchen!

For Those in Europe

Wizz Air is hiring for several bases throughout Europe. They do have awesome uniforms, not sure what the pay is and their website does not mention anything about needing a specific passport.

Flight Attendant Opening - Sunday

This is another commercial recruitment. Allegiant Airlines is recruiting flight attendants for their base in St Petersburg, FL. Contact them directly through their website. With this company you do make commissions on inflight sales. It is said that some flight attendants make up to an additional $500-$600 a month in commission. You are required to sell stuff... so if you are not into selling cokes and mountian dew, this may not be the company for you!

Today's Job Lead- Sunday

Every day I will try to post a flight attendant job lead. Maybe it will be commercial or maybe it will be corporate. Lots of people email me and ask if I know who is hiring. I guess it is easier to just post something on the blog. I am not going to make it easy for those interested, you are going to have to search the web for the company.

Commercial Openings

Xtra Airways out of UT is opening a base in Punta Gorda, FL. They also base in Wendover, NV. This is a 737 charter operator and in NOT corporate and does not pay corporate rates. Salary is not negotiable. I know people who have flown for Xtra and loved it. I also know someone who is going back to Xtra and is excited about it! I do not know how many flight attendants they are looking for, how long training is, if training is paid etc. These are all questions that should be directed to Xtra.

In the Beginning

Ha! Not the beginning in Biblical terms....but in the beginning of my aviation career and my interest in,airplanes and airlines.

In 1968 I decided that I wanted to be a stewardess (the term flight attendant had not yet been coined). I was 21 and working in the mall, the Cherry Hill Mall in New Jersey. It just did not get any more boring than that! I think I was selling kitchen stuff....dish towels, soup spoons and the like. I started reading the want ads in the Philadelphia Inquirer, religously every Sunday. Pan American World Airways was holding interviews in Philadelphia but they required a second language...cross that one off. TWA was also interviewing in Philadelphia, I read the requirements and it appeared that I qualified....so I went to a group interview. Not knowing what to expect, wet behind the ears and expecting to be blindsided by this kind of interview I figured my nerves would get the best of me. But on round one they didn't!

Stewardessess in uniforms stood in from of about 40 girls and told them exactly what flying for TWA would be like, the training in Kansas City, the opportunity to travel the world, and the vomit comet! Yep, they talked about the barf bag brigade on a flight with only trainees where the pilots put the aircraft through sharp turns in an effort to further inform the trainees of what to expect in turbulence. Then there were one on one interviews, those selected for a second interview were give a "Welcome Aboard" packet and asked to return the next day. I received the packet, but did not return the next day. Leave it to my mother, she talked me out of the return interview. She believed that I should find a husband, perhaps at church or even an older man at the cemetery, marry and raise a family! She insisted that I would not like being away from New Jersey!

I am guessing I merely chickened out and that my mothers words had nothing to do with my decision.

Six months later I applied at TWA again and took the second interview (this was held at their reservations center in Philadelphia)...I had to take a Spanish test, I missed some questions so I did not get through to training.

Oh well, there were other airlines and I was not about to give up.

Several months later I applied to Piedmont Airlines of Winston Salem NC. Why on earth would this Jersey Girl want to head to the deep south and fly on "puddle jumpers"? Oh no, there was a guy involved in my decision. Yup, he was the cousin of my brother's wife, his name was Lester! And Lester lived in NC. oh how very smart I was at 21!

October 1968 found me in Winston Salem in training with Piedmont Airlines, I hated it!

My room mate, Joanne, was from Murfreesboro, TN, and my study partner, Anne was from Charleston, WV. I was the only Yankee.....and the first one to join Piedmont training! Training in the late 60's consisted of big hair, eyebrow plucking, girdle wearing and over-the-top make up! Our make up class was conducted by the woman from the make up counter at the local drug store!

We were trained on the Martin 404, FH227, YS11 and the 737. We had navy knit mini dresses with black boots and a rainbow stripe briefcase! The uniforms were nice, but they just did not compare to the mod uniforms being introduced by airlines like Eastern, United and Delta, or the oh so fab uniforms from Braniff!
