Description
Job Purpose:
The General Manager of Inflight is responsible for the strategic direction and day-to-day leadership of the Compass Airlines’ Inflight safety and service function. This involves the leadership of a staff focused on the delivery of safety and customer service functions in the aircraft cabin around the carrier’s system.

Education/or Experience:
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Experience required:
· Three to five year’s line experience as a flight attendant, which should include a variety of working conditions and aircraft types.
· Five to seven years experience in the leadership of a major customer service function in air transportation, either in the Inflight operations or customer service areas
· Prefer leadership experience in large organizations.
· Must have working knowledge of Part 121 operations.
· Negotiation experience with a union group and teaching or instructor experience is preferred
· Experience with Crew Trac and Crew Qual is preferred.
· Prefer experience in selection and training of flight attendants.

Language Skills:
· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
· Must be proficient in communications at all levels, both inside and outside of the company.
· Must be comfortable addressing large groups of people.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
· FAA-Issued Flight Attendant Certificate is desired.

Physical Demands:
· Ability to lift, carry and move light to medium weight of 10 – 30 pounds.
· Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, feet and finger dexterity.

Authority:

* The General Manager of Inflight derives his authority from the Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is responsible for ensuring a safe and customer-focused operation and the authority to conduct the operation is delegated to the General Manager of Inflight. The GM of Inflight has the authority to establish and modify the policies, procedures, instructions and information for the Flight Attendant Duties/Cabin Procedures processes to ensure the absolute safety of the Airline’s passengers and compliance with federal regulations. The GM of Inflight has authority to develop training programs in consultation with other department managers. The GM of Inflight has authority to develop a budget and disperse funds to support all Inflight Department activities.

Responsibility:
· The Director of Operations is responsible for the quality of the Flight Attendant Duties/Cabin Procedures processes. The General Manager of Inflight is responsible to ensure that the Inflight Department complies with all Company policies and procedures and adheres to federal regulations. The General Manager of Inflight is responsible for the development of the Inflight staff, development of processes and maintaining sufficient numbers of qualified flight attendants. The General Manager of Inflight owns responsibility for the Manager of Inflight and the Inflight Supervisors. This position directly impacts the operating and financial performance of the airline, the safety of employees and customers and the business success of the company.

Job Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

* Requires extensive knowledge of all aspects of inflight service operations and training
* Problem Solving/Analytical/Reasoning Ability – Must have the ability to apply common sense in understanding and dealing with customers. Must be able to effectively lead group problem solving exercises. Situations must be dealt with diplomatically and professionally.
* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Must have fundamental understanding and use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for mail. Occasionally use of Microsoft Project.

· Must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently while still keeping a team perspective.
· Must be detail-orientated with ability to multi-task on a regular basis.

* Will have continuing external contacts involving difficult formal negotiations on sensitive company matters.


Job Specifics:
· Lead negotiations with AFA and other contractors as necessary to achieve company desired outcomes.
· Manage the relationship with AFA by appropriately handling programs and grievances that support both Company and union requirements.
· Develop and lead the inflight management team through a strategic planning process and lead them to achieve that plan.
· Manages the work required by flight attendants as it relates to the passenger handling and flight attendant duties/cabin procedures processes and exit row seating and carry-on baggage programs.
· Ensures strict and timely compliance with all FAA and other regulatory requirements as well as Compass Airlines’ established policies and procedures. Promotes and secures adherence to policies that ensure the highest levels of safety through the Inflight staff.
· Oversees all aspects of the Inflight service function, with responsibility for its safety, customer service, operational and financial (cost) performance. Provides Training with necessary requirements and service standards.
· Ensures that Compass Airlines develops and implements rigorous safety and service delivery approaches and standards so as to ensure a higher level of procedural, and therefore safety and service, consistency in the cabin.
· Working closely with the senior management team, establishes a clear overall business and operating strategy for the Inflight department.
· Develop and manage annual working and capital budgets to company standards.
· Provides day-to-day leadership to Compass Airlines’ Inflight department.
· Ensures a work environment that operates within core values, division goals, and provides a quality environment that supports a team effort, encourages open communication, and stresses continuous improvement.
· Creates and maintains a working environment that promotes the professional growth, leadership, accountability and motivation of all personnel.
· Establishes and manages Inflight service operating performance against clear, aggressive, but achievable performance target and improvements in cost, quality, reliability and measured customer service levels so as to ensure the ongoing delivery and enhancement of the Compass Airlines’ in-flight experience.
· Coordinates with the Inflight supervisors and the training department to develop and implement corrective action plans based on results of flight attendant check rides.
· Liaises closely with the heads of the other major functions within the airline organization, ensuring that cross-business unit relationships and work processes are strong and that the units work effectively in delivering top quality safety and service.
· Represents the Inflight department with business partners and with regulatory agencies such as the FAA and DOD.
· Ensures the Flight Attendant Manual is in compliance with Federal regulations as outlined in the Air Transportation Operations Inspector’s Handbook 8400.10.
· Maintains a network with other airlines to assist in best-practices information exchanges.
· Receives information from vendors, partners, and regulatory agencies; and interpret and disseminate the information as necessary.
· Works closely with the POI and Cabin Safety Inspector.
· Establishes hiring standards. Reviews Inflight supervisory candidate applications and conducts interviews. Hires Inflight supervisors and flight attendants to ensure staffing requirements are being met.
· In conjunction with the Manager of Training, oversees the selection process of Inflight instructors.
· Provides on-call assistance 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies, procedural questions, coordinates problems and make on-the-spot management decisions.

Work Environment:
· Generally an office environment.
· Work is also performed in an open work environment (hangar) and in enclosed workstation. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
· High noise, dirt, dust and required protective devices as required in the aircraft flight environment.
· Business travel required by car and aircraft.
